2、essinthemould.Thetechnique,theory,methodsaswellasconsiderationneededindesigningofplasticinjectionmouldarepresented.DesignofmouldwascarriedoutusingcommercialcomputeraideddesignsoftwareUnigraphics,Version13.0.Themodelforthermalresidualstressanalysisduetounevencooling

3、ofthespecimenwasdevelopedandsolvedusingacommercialfiniteelementanalysissoftwarecalledLUSASAnalyst,Version13.5.Thesoftwareprovidescontourplotoftemperaturedistributionforthemodelandalsotemperaturevariationthroughtheplasticinjectionmoldingcyclebyplottingtimeresponsecu

4、rves.Theresultsshowthatshrinkageislikelytooccurintheregionnearthecoolingchannelsascomparedtootherregions.Thisunevencoolingeffectatdifferentregionsofmouldcontributedtowarpage.1.IntroductionPlasticindustryisoneoftheworld'sfastestgrowingindustries,rankedasoneofthefewb

5、illion-dollarindustries.Almosteveryproductthatisusedindailylifeinvolvestheusageofplasticandmostoftheseproductscanbeproducedbyplasticinjectionmoldingmethod.Plasticinjectionmoldingprocessiswellknownasthemanufacturingprocesstocreateproductswithvariousshapesandcomplexg

6、eometryatlowcost.Theplasticinjectionmoldingprocessisacyclicprocess.Therearefoursignificantstagesintheprocess.Thesestagesarefilling,packing,coolingandejection.Theplasticinjectionmoldingprocessbeginswithfeedingtheresinandtheappropriateadditivesfromthehoppertotheheati

7、ng/injectionsystemoftheinjectionplasticinjectionmoldingmachine.Thisisthe"fillingstage"inwhichthemouldcavityisfilledwithhotpolymermeltatinjectiontemperature.Afterthecavityisfilled,inthe"packingstage",additionalpolymermeltispackedintothecavityatahigherpressuretocompe

8、nsatetheexpectedshrinkageasthepolymersolidifies.Thisisfollowedby"coolingstage"wherethemouldiscooleduntilthepartissufficientlyrigidtobeejected.The
