2、unicationbetweennationsorineveryaspectsofoursociallife.Thispapermainlyfocusesonmasculinityandfemininityfromthefollowingaspects,namely,thegeographicaldistributionofmasculinityandfemininity,thegeneralfeaturesandcontrastsofthem,theirinfluenceonmodernworldandIwilldrawaconclusionattheendofthe
3、paper.Firstly,thegeographicaldistributionofmasculinityandfemininity.Masculinityandfemininityaredominatingdifferentlyfromcountrytocountry.Somecountries,likeGermany,Britain,Japan,Mexico,Italy,Austria,andArgentinaetcbelongtotypicalMasculinity.Theso-calledfeminineincludesalltheScandinavianco
4、untries,suchasPortugal,SpainandseveralPan-Americannations.MostcountriesinNorthEuropeareFemininity,suchasSweden,Norway,FinlandandDenmark.Thetypicaltraitofdifferentnationsmaybecausedbyhistoricalreasonsandwhichlateronprevailanddominatespeople’smindonceafter.TakeBritainandFinlandasseparateex
5、amplestoshowmasculinityandfemininity.Britainisamasculinityempire,inhistoryitlaunchedmanylarge-scalewarstowardsothercountries,anditwasalsocalled“theempireofthesunneverset”toshowitsmightypoweronmilitary.Britain’scoloniesscatteredallovertheworld,suchasIndia,LatinAmerica,AustraliaandpartsofC
6、hina.Thereforeitistypicalofaggressiveandinvasivenature.Incontrast,FinlandwasinvadedbymanyothernationsinhistoryandwascolonizedbySweden,Russia.AftertheSecondWorldWar,FinlandbelongingtothedefeatedsideswasforcedtoaccepttheMarshallplan.ItcanhardlydefenditselfandoneobviouscharacterofFinlandisu
7、naggressive.AndthismaybeagoodreasontoshowwhyBritainismasculinewhileFinlandisfeminine.Fromthecross-culturalcommunicationperspective,thisbackgroundknowledgehelpsustobetterunderstandmasculinityandfemininity.Thenationswhicharemasculineoftenhaveamasculineworldview,andviceversa
