5、%inchildrenchildrenwithrespiratorybacterialpathogensisshownwithrelatedpastorrecentrespiratoryinfectionbyseveralstudies[Fadenetal.,1997;Faden,1998;whereas20%ofthesamplestakenfromchild-Bernstein,1999],lessisknownofrespiratoryvirusesinrenwithoutanyrelatedpastorrecentrespiratorythiscontext.Johnston
6、etal.[1993]haveshownthatinfectionswerepositiveforpicornavirusRNA,respiratorypicornavirusescanbefoundin1.4%ofPˆ0.008.Thirty-one(29%)ofthenasopharyn-healthychildrenbyvirusisolationandin12%byPCRgealaspirateswerepositiveforviralRNA,18%formethod.Thereareonlyafewotherstudiesreportedrhinovirus,and11%f
7、orenterovirusRNA.Cor-wherethepresenceofrespiratoryviruseshasbeenonavirusRNAwasnotfoundinanyofthedemonstratedinhealthychildren[Hornetal.,1979;children.Fifty-®vepercentofthechildrenwithJenningsetal.,1987]andinmostofthepreviousvirus-
