3、icityrecognizedbythesemonoclonalantibodies(MAbs)wasinvestigatedbyWesternimmunoblotting,alloftheMAbsreactedwithpeplomerglycoprotein(S)ofthevirus.BycompetitivebindingassaytheseMAbswerefoundtorecognizeatleast3differentepitopes.ThereactivityoftheseMAbswith6virusesclassifiedasFIPVtypeI(UCD-1,UCD-2,UCD-3
4、,UCD-4,NW-1,andBlack),felineentericcoronavirus(FECV)typeIIstrain79-1683,caninecoronavirus(CCV)strain1-71,andtransmissiblegastroenteritisvirus(TGEV)strainsTO-163andSHwasexaminedbyneutralizationtests.AllMAbsneutralizedFECVstrain79-1683,CCVstrain1-71,andTGEVstrainsTO-163andSH,whiletheydidnotneutralize
5、the6FIPVtypeIviruses.Moreover,theMAbagainstTGEVstrainTO-163,whichhasstrongneutralizingactivityagainst7TGEVviruses,neutralizedCCVstrain1-71,FECVstrain79-1683,andFIPVstrain79-1146,butdidnotneutralizethe6FIPVtypeIviruses.Theseresultsdemonstratedthatthereareatleast3epitopesinvolvedintheneutralizationof
6、FIPVtypeIIstrain79-1146,andthattheseepitopesarenotpresentinFIPVtypeIvirusesbutarepresentinFECVstrain79'-1683whichdoesnotinducefelineinfectiousperitonitis,TGEVstrainsTO-163andSH,andCCVstrain1-71.Theseresultssuggestthepresenceof2serotypesofFIPVwhichcanbeclearlydistinguishedbytheneutralizationtestusin
