3、ier,filter,andaregulator.Thestep-downtransformerisusedtodecreasetheAClinevoltagefrom115VRMStoanRMSvalueneartheDCvoltageneeded.Theoutputofthestep-downtransformeristhenfedintoadioderectifiercircuitthatonlyoutputspositivehalvesoftheinputsinusoid.Afilteristhenusedtosmooththerectifieroutputtoachievean

4、earlyconstantDCvoltagelevel.Aregulatorcanbeaddedafterthefiltertoensureaconstantoutputvoltageinspiteofchangesinloadcurrentandinputvoltages.Twodifferenttypesofvoltageregulatorswillbeusedinthisproject.ThefirstinvolvesaZenerdiodecircuitandthesecondinvolvesavoltageregulatorcircuit.AZenerdiodecanbeused

5、asavoltageregulatorwhenthediodeisreversebiasedandoperatedinthebreakdownregion.Tomaintainvoltageregulation,theZenerdiodemustbeoperatedinthebreakdownregionatacurrentgreaterthanthe"knee"current(IZK).For43/43currentsgreaterthanIZK,theZenerdiodecharacteristiccurveisnearlyverticalandthevoltageacrossthe

6、diodechangesverylittle.Ofcoursethereisamaximumcurrentthediodecantolerate,sogoodregulationisprovidedwhenthediodeisreversebiasedwithcurrentsbetweenIZKandIZMAX.Zenerdiodesareavailablewithawidevarietyofbreakdownvoltages.Anothertypeofvoltageregulatorisavailablewiththe7800seriesregulators.Thisseriesoff
