3、swhichremainclinicallyhealthy.L'!ordertostudytheroleofthelocalhumeralimmune-reactiononthecourseoftheinfectionweanaly~edthekineticsofvirusneutralizingantibodytitersintheCSFandquantitatedvirus-specificantibodysecretingcell(AbSC)fromthebra:,nparenchymausingthespot-ELISA-assay.Thesubc
4、linicalinflammationintheCNSofBNratswasaccompaniedbyanearlyriseofneutralizingantibodiesintheCSF.Atthesametime,LEratsdevelopedsignsofneurologicalsymptomsintheabsenceofsuchantibodies.However,withtheriseofneutralizingantibodiesintheCSFofLErats,theseanimalsrecoveredfromdisease.TheCNS-p
5、arenchymaofbothratstrainsharbouredequivalentnumbersofIgMsecretingcellsbutinBNrats,virus-specificIgGSCappearedearlierandreachedhighernumberscomparedtoLErats.Moreover,I~NratsdevelopedantibodiestoviralantigensofhigheraffinitythanwasfoundintheLErats.Thedatasuggestthatanearlyvirus-spec
