3、hosefourclinicalisolates,recoveredfromcasesofepidemicdiarrheainneonatalcalvesinQu6becdairyherdsbetween1987-1990,tospecificallyamplifyandanalyzetheirsequencesintheselectedgenomicarea.NucleotidesequenceanalysisofthefourclinicalisolatesindicatedthattheirS1Bgenefragmentswerehighlyco
4、nserved.WealsocomparedtheS1BgenesequencesoftheQu6becBCVisolatestothepublishedcorrespondingsequencesfromBCV-L9[37],BCV-MEB[1],andBCV-F15[3]referencestrains.Ahighdegreeofsimilaritywasdemonstratedforallviruses,nodeletionsorinsertionswereobserved,andtheonlyvariationsthatwereidentifi
5、edconsistedofnucleotidesubstitutions.Thedifferingnucleotidesandaminoacids(aa)werenotdistributedrandomlyovertheentiresequencebutratherwereclusteredinthepolymorphicregion.Ofthese,foursporadicaachangeswerelocatedinantigenicdomainII(aaresidues517to720)ofS1.Thiscorrelateswithvariedan
6、tigenicityobservedamongtheBCVQu6becisolateswhenreactingwithMAbsdirectedagainsttheSglycoproteinoftheMebusstrain.TheothermutationsseemtobefixedinallQu6becisolates.IntroductionBovinecoronavirus(BCV)isanimportantcauseofacuteenteritisinnewborncalves[18].SomerecentreportssuggestthatBC
7、Visalsoresponsibleforupperrespiratorytractillnessingrowingcalves[22,24],winterdysentery(hemorrhagicenteritis)orchronicsheddinginadultcattle[2,25].Theviralparticleismostlyspherical,envelopedwithadiameterofaround100nm,anddisplaystwofringesofsurfaceprojections[28,31].Theviralgenome
