3、one-stepgrowthconditions,cytopathicchangesandgiantcellformationwereobserved12hafterinfection;morethan99~ofthevirusremainedcell-associated15hafterinfection.Viralproteinsatthesurfaceofinfectedcellsweredetectedbyimmunofluorescence.Theexposedantigenswerelocalizedonfourp

5、torintheimmunepathogenesisoffelineinfectiousperitonitis.INTRODUCTIONFelineinfectiousperitonitisvirus(FIPV),acoronavirus,causesdiseaseincatsandotherFelidae.Thepathogenesisoffelineinfectiousperitonitis(FIP)isnotunderstood;indicationsforaninvolvementoftheimmunesystem,h
6、owever,havebeengiven(Horzinek&Osterhaus,1979).ActivelyacquiredortransferredcoronavirusantibodieshavebeenfoundtomakeacatmorepronetoafatalcourseofFIP(Pedersen&Boyle,1980;Weiss&Scott,1981).AlongitudinalstudyoftheeventsduringexperimentalFIPmadeusadvanceahypothesisforthe
7、pathogeneticmechanismduringFIPVinfection(Jacobse-Geelsetal.,1982).Amajorroleisattributedtothemacrophage,whichisthepredominantifnottheonlytargetcellofFIPVinvivo(Pedersen,1976),andanimmuneenhancementofmacrophageinfection(Halsteadetal.,1973;Peiris&Porterfield,1979)hasb
