1、NewSilkRoadwillbolsterAsia-EuropetiesTheEuropeanUnionfacedseriouseconomicchallengesoverthepastfewyears,butthemajorityoftheCentralandEasternEuropeancountrieshavenowreturnedtotheirhighgrowthpatternsafterthefinancialcrisis,comparedwiththemoredevelopedwesternEUmemberstates.Theprima

2、ryfocusoftheCEEcountriesduringtheyearsoftheirpoliticalandeconomictransformationwasthesuccessfulintegrationwiththewesternEuropeaninstitutionalframework.Theturbulencesfollowingthefinancialcrisis,however,encouragedregionalgovernmentstodiversifytheireconomicrelationsandstrengthenco

3、operationwiththeglobalpowersoftheEasternhemisphereaswell.TheChina-ledBeltandRoadInitiative,theSilkRoadEconomicBeltand21stCenturyMaritimeSilkRoad,meetsthestrategicorientationofthegovernmentsoftheCEEregion.Facilitatingthesemutualinterests,amultilateralcooperationmechanismhasbeens

4、etupwithinthe"16+1"frameworktostrengtheneconomicanddiplomatictiesamongtheparticipatingcountries.Asasignofitsnewforeignpolicyapproach,theHungariangovernmentannounceditsEasternOpeningpolicyin2011withtheaimtoboosteconomiccooperationwiththerapidlygrowingregionsofAsia.ThepolicyisHun

5、gary'sanswertothechallengesfacedbytheworldeconomyandtotherealignmentininternationalrelations.AlthoughtheCEEcountriesdifferinmanyaspects,theirhistoricalandsocialtiesprovideastrongfoundationforfurthercooperation.Thestrategicgeographicalpositionoftheregionallowedtheestablishmentof

6、majortransitroutesrunningthroughtheCEEcountriesforthousandsofyears.Forexample,theAmberRoad-whichwasmainlydevelopedduringtheruleoftheRomanEmpireabout2millenniumsago-madethetransportationofamberandothervaluablerawmaterialspossiblefromtheBalticregiontoItaly.Theroadstretchingmoreth

7、an1,500kilometersbetweenitstwoendpoints,utilizedthemostdevelopedtechnologyofthetime:a5-meterwidepavedhighway.TheAmberRoadplayedasignificantroleintheeconomicdevelopmentoftheregionwhilefacilitatinginterculturalrelationsbetweentheRomanprovincesandthesurroundingcountries.Besidesthe
