3、usexerthighpressureonTLBaddresstranslations.Thispressureismoreprominentinavirtualizedsystem,whichaddsanadditionallayerofaddresstranslation.PagewalksduetoTLBmissescanresultinasignificantperformanceoverhead.Oneeffortinreducingthisoverheadistousehugepage.Linuxkernelhassupportedtranspar

4、enthugepagesince2.6.38,whichprovidesanalternatelargepagesize.Generally,hugepagedemonstratesbetterperformanceonaddresstranslationsandpagetablemodifications.Thispaperfirstanalyzestheimpactofhugepageonnativesystem,andthen,comparestheimpactofhugepageondifferentmemoryvirtualizationapproac

5、hes:hardware-assistedpaging(HAP),shadowpaging,andpara-virtualization.Weobservethatthecurrentimplementationoftransparenthugepageisinefficient.Itcannotexploitthefullperformanceadvantageofhugepages.Worseyet,theconservativestrategyoftransparenthugepagemayconflictwithexistingOSfunctions,w

6、hichcanleadtoperformancedegradation.So,weproposeanewmemoryallocationstrategy,alignment-basedhugepage(ABH)thatpromoteshugepageallocations.WeapplyABHtodifferentpagingmodesinvirtualizedsystems.TheresultsshowthatthenewallocationstrategycansignificantlyreduceTLBmissesandupto90%pagewalkcy
