2、andtojoinyouheretodayatthisgreatuniversity.IfirstcametoChina,andtoPekingUniversity,inthesummerof1981asacollegestudentstudyingMandarin.IwasherewithasmallgroupofgraduateandundergraduatestudentsfromacrosstheUnitedStates.IreturnedthenextsummertoBeijingNormalUniversity.Westudiedreasonablyhard,and

3、hadtheprivilegeofworkingwithmanytalentedprofessors,someofwhomareheretoday.AsweexploredthiscityandtraveledthroughEasternChina,wehadthechancenotjusttounderstandmoreaboutyourhistoryandyouraspirations,butalsotobegintoseetheUnitedStatesthroughyoureyes.Overthedecadessince,wehaveseenthebeginningsof

4、oneofthemostextraordinaryeconomictransformationsinhistory.Chinaisthriving.Economicreformhasbroughtexceptionallyrapidandsustainedgrowthinincomes.China?ˉsemergenceasamajoreconomicforcemorefullyintegratedintotheworldeconomyhasbroughtsubstantialbenefitstotheUnitedStatesandtoeconomiesaroundthewor

5、ld.Inrecognitionofourmutualinterestinapositive,cooperative,andcomprehensiverelationship,PresidentHuJintaoandPresidentObamaagreedinApriltoestablishtheStrategicandEconomicDialogue.SecretaryClintonandIwillhostVicePremierWangandStateCouncilorDaiinWashingtonthissummerforourfirstmeeting.Ihavethepr

6、ivilegeofbeginningtheeconomicdiscussionswithaseriesofmeetingsinBeijingtodayandtomorrow.Thesemeetingswillgiveusachancetodiscusstherisksandchallengesontheeconomicfront,toexaminesomeofthelongertermchallengeswebothfaceinlayingthefoundationforamorebalancedandsustainablerecovery,andtoexploreourcom

7、moninterestininternationalfinancialreform.CurrentChallengesandRisksTheworldeconomyisgoingthroughthemostchallengingeconomicandfinancialstressingenerations.TheInternationalMonetaryFundpredictsthattheworldeconomywillshrinkthisyearforthefirsttimeinmore
