2、tmouth(1769),andCornell(1865).TheyaremembersofanathleticconferenceforintercollegiateAmericanfootballandothersportsknownastheIvyLeague.Thoughformallyorganizedonlyin1956,competitionbetweenthecollegesdatesbacktofootballmeetingsinthe1870s.TheIvyLeaguewasdomi
3、nantintheearlyyearsoffootballintheUnitedStatesuntil1913,asattestedbytheAll-Americateams,butitfadedinthe1920s.IvyLeagueRelatedInformationHarvardUniversitytheoldestinstitutionofhigherlearningintheUnitedStates(founded1636)andoneofthenation’smostprestigious.
4、ItisoneoftheIvyLeagueschools.ThemainuniversitycampusliesalongtheCharlesRiverinCambridge,Massachusetts,afewmileswestofdowntownBoston.Harvard’stotalenrollmentisabout20,000.privateuniversityinNewHaven,Conn.Itwasfoundedin1701andisthethirdoldestuniversityinth
5、eUnitedStates.YalewasoriginallycharteredbythecoloniallegislatureofConnecticutastheCollegiateSchoolandwasheldatKillingworthandotherlocations.In1716theschoolwasmovedtoNewHaven,andin1718itwasrenamedYaleCollegeinhonourofawealthyBritishmerchantandphilanthropi
6、st,ElihuYale,whohadmadeaseriesofdonationstotheschool.Yale’sinitialcurriculumemphasizedclassicalstudiesandstrictadherencetoorthodoxPuritanism.YaleUniversityprivateuniversitylocatedinPhiladelphia,Pennsylvania,U.S.,oneoftheIvyLeagueschoolsandtheoldestuniver
7、sityinthecountry.Itwasfoundedin1740asacharityschool.LargelythroughtheeffortsofBenjaminFranklinandotherleadingPhiladelphians,itbecameanacademyin1751,withFranklinaspresidentofthefirstboardoftrustees.In1755itwascharteredastheCollegeandAcademyofPhiladelphia.
