3、impactontheenvironment[6].ThisisnotonlyconfirmedbyexploratoryresearchbutalsothroughtheformationoftheInternationalHotelsEnvironmentalInitiative(IHEI).TheIHEIhaspublishedanenvironmentalmanualEnvironmentalManagementforHotels:theIndustryGuidetoBestPracticewhichisaimedathotelgeneralmanagers.Asana

4、lternativetothemanualtheIHEIhasalsoproducedanactionpackdesignedforthesmallandindependenthoteloperator.Anumberofhotelgroupshavealsoseparatelydevelopedtheirownenvironmentalprogrammesandinitiatives.Theseincludenewsletterson“green”issues,environmentalcommitteesand“green”bedrooms.Itisevidentfromt

5、heliteraturethatcostbenefitscanbeachievedbyoperatingamore“environmentallyfriendly”hotel.However,anecdotalevidencewouldsuggestthatofmoreconcerntothehotelieristheimpactofenvironmentalinitiativesontheperceivedqualityandserviceofthehotel.Onesolutiontothisproblemwouldbeeducationofguestsaboutenvir

6、onmentalfactorsandallowingthemtheopportunityofchoosingthe“environmental”,option.Afurtherconcernofthehotelieristhat“environmentallyfriendly”alternativesareperceivedaslessefficientthanthenormally-usedproducts[7].Thisproblemshouldbecomelessapparentassuppliersrecognizethedemandforsatisfactory“gr

7、een”productsandprovideadequatealternatives.Thegeneralmanagerinthehotelsectordoesappeartorecognizethatthehospitalityindustrydoeshaveanimpactontheenvironment[6].Howeverhe/shewouldappeartoberestrictedinintroducingenvironmentalimprovementsinthehotel9un
