1、CAC/RCP6Page1of8RECOMMENDEDINTERNATIONALCODEOFHYGIENIC1PRACTICEFORTREENUTSCAC/RCP6-1972SECTIONI-SCOPEThiscodeofpracticeappliesspecificallytoalmonds(Prunusamygdalus)andwalnuts(Juglansspp.)butisgenerallyapplicabletoalltreenuts,includingfilberts(hazelnuts)(Co

2、rylusspp.),pecans(Caryaillinoensis),brazils(Bertholletiaexcelsa),cashews(Anacardiumoccidentale),chestnuts(Castaneaspp.),macadamianuts(Macadamiaspp.),etc.Thiscodeofpracticeisintendedtoprovidebasichygienicrequirementsfororchards,farmprocessing(shellingandhul

3、ling),and/orcommercialshellingorinshelloperations.Itcoversalltreenutsandtreenutproducts,includingtheblanched,diced,ground,andsimilarproducts,butdoesnotincludeproductswheretreenutsareaminoringredient.SECTIONII-DEFINITIONSBlowsmeansinshellnutswhichareunusual

4、lylightweightduetoextensivedamagefromphysiologicalfungous,insect,orothercausesandwhichcanberemoved,forexample,mechanicallybyairflow.SECTIONIII-RAWMATERIALREQUIREMENTSA.EnvironmentalSanitationinGrowingandFoodProductionAreas(1)Sanitarydisposalofhumanandanima

5、lwastes.Adequateprecautionsshouldbetakentoensurethathumanandanimalwastesaredisposedofinsuchamannerasnottoconstituteapublichealthorhygienichazard,andextremecareshouldbetakentoprotecttheproductafromcontaminationwiththesewastes.(2)Sanitaryqualityofirrigationw

6、ater.Waterusedforirrigationshouldnotconstituteapublichealthhazardtotheconsumerthroughtheproduct.(3)Animal,plantpestanddiseasecontrol.Wherecontrolmeasuresareundertaken,treatmentwithchemical,biologicalorphysicalagentsshouldbedoneonlyinaccordancewiththerecomm

7、endationsoftheappropriateofficialagency,byorunderthedirectsupervisionofpersonnelwithathoroughunderstandingofthehazardsinvolved,includingthepossibilityoftoxicresiduesbeingretainedbythecrop.B.SanitaryHarvestingandFoodProduction(1)Harvesting.Treenutharvesting
