2、nagecontaminationbyvariousmycotoxins,specificallyaflatoxins.InorderforthisCodeofPracticetobeeffective,itwillbenecessaryfortheproducersandprocessorsineachcountrytoconsiderthegeneralprinciplesgivenin1theCode,takingintoaccounttheagronomicandextractivisticpracticesasso
3、ciatedwiththetreenutsproducedintheirregions,beforeattemptingtoimplementprovisionsenumeratedintheCode.ItisimportantforproducersorextractiviststorealizethatGoodAgriculturalPractices(GAP)representtheprimarylineofdefenceagainstcontaminationofnutswithaflatoxins,followed
4、bytheimplementationofGoodManufacturingPractices(GMP)GoodExtractivisticPracticesandGoodStoragePractices(GSP)duringthehandling,processing,storageanddistributionofnutsforhumanconsumption.Onlybyeffectivecontrolatallstagesfromthefarmthroughtoprocessingcanexcellentqualit
5、yofthefinalproductbeassured.However,thecompleteeliminationofmycotoxincontaminatedcommodities,includingtreenuts,isnotachievableatthistime.2.ThisCodeofPracticeappliestoallvarietiesoftreenutsofcommercialandinternationalconcern,includingalmonds(Prunusamygdalus),Braziln
6、uts(Bertholletiaexcelsa),cashews(Anacardiumoccidentale),hazelnuts(Corylusspp.),macadamianuts(Macadamiaspp.),pecans(Caryaspp.),pinenuts(Pinusspp.),chestnuts(Castaneaspp.),pistachionuts(Pistaciaspp.)andwalnuts(Juglansspp.).Itcontainsgeneralprinciplesforthereductionof
7、aflatoxinsintreenutsthatshouldbesanctionedbynationalauthorities.Nationalauthoritiesshouldeducateproducers,extractivists,transporters,storagekeepersandotheroperatorsoftheproductionchainregardingthepracticalmeasuresandenvironmentalfactorsthatpromoteinfectionandgrowth
