2、olderbrothernamedWilliamAustinDickinson(1829-1895)(knownasAustin)whowouldmarryhermostintimatefriendSusanGilbertin1856.TheDickinsonswerestrongadvocatesforeducationandEmilytoobenefitedfromanearlyeducationinclassicliterature,studyingthewritingsofVirgilandLatin,mathematics,history,andbotany.LifeDickin
3、sonprovedtobeadazzlingstudentandin1847,thoughshewasalreadysomewhatofa‘homebody’,attheageofseventeenEmilyleftforSouthHadley,MassachusettstoattendtheMountHolyokeFemaleSeminary.Shestayedtherelessthanayearandsomeofthetheoriesastowhysheleftarehomesicknessandpoorhealth.LifeShewasinthemidstofthecollegeto
