2、March1998AbstractDuetoitscomplexgeometry,awireinaropeissubjectedtothecombinede¤ectsoftension,shear,bending,torsion,contact,frictionandpossiblelocalplasticyieldingwhenloaded.InthispaperanaccurateandgeneralstrandmodelusingtheÞniteelementmethod(FEM)ispresented.Themodeliscapableoftakingintoaccounta
3、lltheabovee¤ectsandhasbeensuccessfullyusedtopredicttheglobalbehaviourofsimplestraightwireropestrandaswellasthestressdistributionwithinthewiresunderaxialloads(tensileandtorsional).InsimplifyingtheÞniteelementmodel,preciseboundaryconditionsweredeveloped.TheÞniteelementanalysisresultsshowedexcelle
