3、marlin(MakairanigricansLacepède1802)intheAtlanticoceanwasinferredfromanalysesofmitochondrialcontrolregionsequences.Bluemarlinwerecollectedin1998from4majorgeographiclocations:westernNorthAtlantic,CaribbeanSea,westernSouthAtlanticandeasternAtlantic.Haplotypediversity(h)rangedfrom0.99–
4、1.0andnucleotidesequencediversity(π)rangedfrom0.11–0.13withinsamplesindicatingthatthecontrolregionharborsasignificantamountofgeneticvariation.However,nosignificantdifferenceswerefoundinthespatialpartitioningofgeneticvariationamongthe4col-lections;allpairwiseφvalueswerenegativeandwer
5、ethereforealltakenasestimatesaroundatruevalueof0.STAswithpreviousstudiesofbluemarlin,sequenceswerecomprisedof2distinctmitochondriallineagesseparatedbyanaverageof138basepairsandφbetweencladesof0.799(P<0.0001).These2lineageswerepresentinSTsimilarfrequenciesacrosssamplinglocations.Gene
