1、EXEMPTORGANIZATIONSLETTERFROMTHEDIRECTORDearColleagues:ExemptOrganizations(EO)respectsthenonprofitsector’sworkandsupportsitseffortsbyhelpingtoensurethatthepublicmaintainstrustintheexemptsector.Overthispastyear,ourleadershipandstaffhavecontinuedtosupporttheseeffortsthrougharobusteduc

2、ationalprogram,amoreefficientdeterminationprocess,andacomprehensivecomplianceprogram.Wealsohavecontinuedtocommunicatetheimportanceoforganizationalgovernanceanditsexpectedimpactoncompliancewiththetaxlaw.Aswemoveforwardintoanewyear,weviewFiscalYear2011asanopportunitytobuildonourrecent

3、efforts,fine-tunecertainprojectsandprograms,andpreparefortheinevitablechangesinthelandscapeofexemptorganizations.Ourworkforthisyearcomestogetheraroundthreemajorthemes:•EOIntegrates.Inrecentyears,EOinitiatedseveralprojectsfocusingonspecificsegmentsofthesector,aswellasparticularcompli

4、anceissuesaffectingacross-sectionofexemptorganizations.WebelieveitisnowappropriatetoincorporatetheseprojectsandlessonslearnedintotheoverallEOprocesses,ratherthankeepingtheseeffortsasseparateprojects.•EOSupportsandCollaborates.Inthecomingyear,IRSleadershipwillfocusagency-wideattentio

5、noncertaincriticalissues,includinginternationalactivitiesandcompliancewiththepassageofrecentlegislation.TheseimportanteffortsrequiresignificantresourcesfromEO.OtherkeyprojectswillinvolvecollaborativeworkwiththeNationalResearchProgramandnon-filerinitiatives.•EOInvests.Inordertokeepup

6、withtheever-changingexemptorganizationsector,EOwillinvesttimeandresourcesinawidearrayofinitiatives,whichwilltouchabroaderaudience.ThisreportprovidesupdatedstatisticsanddiscussionsofouraccomplishmentsinFY2010,aswellasapreviewofourprogramsinFY2011.Welookforwardtoworkingwiththeexemptco
