2、meInternetbased.ThefactthattheInternetisadynamicinformationandcommunicationenvironmentgivesreasontoconsideritseducationalrealizationtoenhancestudentcenteredinstruction.Itisassumedthattheseenvironmentssupportadvancedpedagogicalideas.Theseideasareclaimednotonlybyinstructorsbutalsobystu

3、dentswhoseemtoshiftfromviewingeducationasacquiringknowledgeandmemorizationtoaconstructiveactivity(Lonke,1997).Couldthenetsupplyalearningenvironment,whichsupportsanewpedagogyinhighereducation?OnewaytoexplorethisquestionistofindouthowtheInternetisusedinonlinehighereducationcourses.Inas

4、urveyweconductedinthismatter70highereducationsitesoutof400educationalsiteswereanalyzed.Theanalysisrevealedthat91%ofthesitesusedindividualinstruction,noneofthemusedcollaborativeactivitiesalmost75%ofthesiteswereonlyinformationpages.Fromthecommunicationpointofview67%usedE-mail,almostnod

5、iscussiongroupswereofferedandonly8.6%offeredsynchronousmeans(Miodusar,Nachmias,Oren,Lahav,1999).Itseemsquiteclearthatthecommunicativefeatureswerenotusedintheappropriateway.Anotherwaytoanswerthesequestionsisthroughdeveloping;experiencingandexploringwebbasedinstruction.Thiswayisdiscuss

6、edinthefollowingarticle.Ourmaininterestlieswithtwomainissuesdiscussedintheliteratureconcerningdistancelearning:(Harasim,1995;Hitz,1995;Anderson&Kanuka,1997;Chan&Rapman,1999;Bonket.al,2000).•Dostudentscontrolthelearningprocessinawebbasedlearningmode?•Dostudentsdevelopasocialatmosphere
