3、ingroutingprotocolsdesignedtoaccommodatetheneedsofsuchself-organizednetworksdonotaddresspossiblethreatsaimingatthedisruptionoftheprotocolitself.Theassumptionofatrustedenvironmentisnotonethatcanberealisticallyexpected;henceseveraleffortshavebeenmadetowardsthedesign

4、ofasecureandrobustroutingprotocolforadhocnetworks.Webrieflypresentthemostpopularprotocolsthatfollowthetable-drivenandthesource-initiatedon-demandapproaches.Basedonthisdiscussionwethenformulatethethreatmodelforadhocroutingandpresentseveralspecificattacksthatcantarg

5、ettheoperationofaprotocol.Inordertoanalyzetheproposedsecureadhocroutingprotocolsinastructuredwaywehaveclassifiedthemintofivecategories;solutionsbasedonasymmetriccryptography,solutionsbasedonsymmetriccryptography,hybridsolutions,reputation-basedsolutionsandacategor

6、yofadd-onmechanismsthatsatisfyspecificsecurityrequirements.Acomparisonbetweenthesesolutionscanprovidethebasisforfutureresearchinthisrapidlyevolvingarea.1IntroductionDuringthelastfewyearswehaveallwitnessedacontinuouslyincreasinggrowthinthedeploymentofwirelessandmob
