3、sitscorrectinterpretationaccordingtoaninformedviewer.Isuggestthattheoreticalmodesofinterpretationinthisveinreallyamounttoattemptstocontrolmeaningviaaparticularlens,ratherthanallowingfilmstopresentmeaninginnecessarilyambiguous,andthussometimesunsettling,ways.Situatingfilmast
4、heobjectofstudyinthiswaycontinuesatraditionofempiricismornaturalisminthoughtthatbothMauriceMerleau-PontyandLudwigWittgensteinsoughttocritiqueaspsychologism.WhilstnoclaimismadeforreconceivingofWittgensteinasphenomenologist,adialoguebetweentheRemarksonthePhilosophyofPsychol
5、ogyandthePhenomenologyofPerceptionrevealssympathiesinattemptsmadebybothtoovercomeametaphysicsoftheperceivedorexperiencedobject,therebybroadeningtheeducationalreachoffilm.INTRODUCTIONTheideasinformingthispaperhavebeendevelopedsomewhatintandemwithpreparationsforanewmoduleIam
