3、workingwiththegovernmentsofdevelopingnationsandinternationalorganizationstomakeAIDSmedicinesavailableatornearcostandinsomecasesforfree.Thepriority,though,shouldbeinpreventingthespreadofthisincurabledisease,manyexpertsstillagree.Finally,sustainableprogre
4、ssinimprovingaccesstohealthcare,includinginnovativemedicines,canonlybemadethroughanintegratedapproachtothecurrenthealthproblems.Manydevelopingcountriesarenotadequatelydeliveringbasichealthcareservices,includingmedicines,totheirpopulations.Countriesneedf
5、unctioningpublichealthsystemstogethealthcareservicesandmedicinestothesick.Therearefewerthanthreedoctorsper10,000peopleinmanycountriesinsub-SaharanAfrica.Storageanddistributionsystemsarenonexistentorarepoorlymanaged,resultinginsignificantlossesofmedicine
6、s.WorldBankestimatesthatforevery$100spentbyAfricangovernmentsondrugs,only$12worthofmedicinesreachespatients.Countriesneedadequateinfrastructure-roads,transportation,electricity,cleanwatersupply-tooperateaneffectivehealthcaresystem.Healthfacilitiesareoft
7、enlocatedinurbanareas,farawayfromruralpopulationsmostinneed,orarenotaccessibletolargenumbersofthepopulationviapublictransportation.Fundamentaleconomic,socialandpoliticalissuesinmanydevelopingnationsimpedeaccesstohealthcareservicesandmedicines.Impassable
