2、Knowhowservomechanismswork.INTRODUCTIONAcontrolsystemisacollectionofcomponentsworkingtogetherunderthedirectionofsomemachineintelligence.Inmostcases,electroniccircuitsprovidetheintelligence,andelectromechanicalcomponentssuchassensorsandmotorsprovidetheinterfacetothephysicalworld.Agoodexampleisthem
3、odernautomobile.Varioussensorssupplytheon-boardcomputerwithinformationabouttheengine’scondition.Thecomputerthencalculatesthepreciseamountoffueltobeinjectedintotheengineandadjuststheignitiontiming.Themechanicalpartsofthesystemincludetheengine,transmission,wheels,andsoon.Todesign,diagnose,orrepairt
4、hesesophisticatedsystems,youmustunderstandtheelectronics,themechanics,andcontrolsystemprinciples.Indayspast,so-calledautomaticmachinesorprocesseswerecontrolledeitherbyanalogelectroniccircuits,orcircuitsusingswitches,relays,andtimers.Sincetheadventoftheinexpensivemicroprocessor,moreandmoredevicesa
