4、sandhasattractedvariousinterpretationsfromacademics;thesehaveusuallybeencentredaroundculturalreadings.Iexplorethepassagefromthreedistinctperspectives,cultural,historicalandliterary.Garcı´aMa´rquez’sCienan˜osdesoledadisaworkrichinhistoricalandliterarysources,andinorderto
5、helpdeterminetheimpactofpoliticalandculturalhappeningsuponhiswork,IhavealsoreferredextensivelyalsotoGarcı´aMa´rquez’srecentlypublishedmemoirs,whichhaveenabledmetomakereasonedjudgmentsaboutthedifferentspheresofinfluenceuponGarcı´aMa´rquez’swork.1.SleeplessinMacondoIntheth
