2、foroverallinterpretationsoftheirauthor’sthought,littleattentionhasbeenpaidtothephilologicalproblemsthattheypresent.Thisfact,togetherwiththetheoreticalandpoliticaldisputesthatbeganwithpublicationofthefirsteditionin1932,hashelpedtofuelamisinterpretationofwhatmanycommentators
3、regardasthemostsignifi-canttextofMarx’syouth.AfterabriefdescriptionoftheintellectualclimateatthetimeofMarx’sstayintheFrenchcapitalandoftheeconomicstudiesthathebeganthere,thisessayexaminesthecloseconnectionbetweenthe[EconomicandPhilo-sophicalManuscriptsof1844]andtheparallel
4、notebooksofexcerptsthatMarxcompiledfromthewritingsofpoliticaleconomists,aswellasthegreaterphilosophicalandpoliticalmaturitythatheachievedinthismajorperiodofhisdevelopment.Finally,atablereconstructsthechronologicalorderofthemanuscriptsandnotebooksofexcerptsthatMarxcomposedi
