5、JohnDewey,from1935.AndDeweyinturnwascitingaFrencharticlepublishedin1934.Inotherwords,whatweknownow,in2001,wealreadyknewin1935.Bloomcontinues:“Thebasiccontoursoftheemergenceoflanguageareagreeduponbymostresearchers....However,beyondthesebroaddescriptivestrokes,wehavele
6、ssagreementonthedetailsofearlylanguageandevenlessconsensusonhowbesttoexplainitsdevelopment”(Bloom,1998,320-321).DescriptionandExplanationThedistinctionBloomhasdrawnherebetweendescriptionandexplanationisimportant,thoughpotentiallymisleading.Researchersdogenerallyagree
