3、lemanyofthesestudieshavefoundsignificantresults,theysufferfromacombinationofsubjectiveself-reportmeasuresastheprimaryoutcome,alackofpropercontrols,oftencombinemusicwithsometypeofrelaxationtherapy,ordonotrandomisesubjectstocontrolandtreatmentconditions.Itisthereforediffi

4、culttoassesstheefficacyofmusictoinduceorimprovesleep.Thepresentstudythereforeexaminedtheeffectsofmusicusingstandardpolysomnographicmeasuresandquantitativeanalysisoftheelectroencephalogram,alongwithsubjectiveratingsofsleepquality.Inaddition,atonesconditionwasusedtocompar

5、eanyeffectsofmusicwiththeeffectsofgeneralauditorystimulation.Usingacounter-balancedwithin-subjectsdesign,themusicwasnotsignificantlybetterthanthetonesorcontrolconditionsinimprovingsleeponsetlatency,sleepefficiency,waketimeaftersleeponset,orpercentslowwavesleep,asdetermi
