4、threedistinctionpopulationswereidentied:twolow-energynarrowpeaksandabroadhigh-energytail"withenergies-per-chargeinexcessof5timesthedischargevoltage.Detectionoflow-energyionsabove45wasnotpossiblesincetheywereconnedbytheanodevoltage.Atlargeangles,theintensityofthehigh-energyionsigna
5、ldecreasedtobecomeindistinguishablefromnoiseinthedatasystem;however,basedonpreviousresults,thefailuretodetecthigh-energyionsatlargeangleshasbeenattributedtothelargedistancebetweenthecathodeandESA,notalackofhigh-energyions.AstheanglebetweentheESAline-of-sightandthecathodeaxisincrease
6、sfrom0to16,thelocationofthelow-energyionpeaksshiftbutthereisnoapparentdierenceinthehigh-energyiontail.Increasingtheseparationanglefurtheryieldsadecreaseinintensityatallener-gies.Forlowenergies-per-charge,theshapeandintensityoftheunidirectionalion-energydistributiondoesnotchangewhenth
7、ecathodeistranslatedupto2.5cm;however,asthedistancefromthecathodecenterlineincreases,thesignalintensityofthehigh-energyionsdecreasesinamannersimilartothedecreaseinhigh-energyionsseenwithincreasingan-glesabove30.Theseresultsindicatethatmagneto-gasdynamicforcesdidnotacceleratetheionsob
