3、ine.1.IntroductionDigitalinpainting,thetechniqueofreconstructingsmalldamagedportionsofanimage,hasreceivedconsiderableattentioninrecentyears.Digitalinpaint-ingservesawiderangeofapplications,suchasremovingtextandlogosfromstillimagesorvideos,reconstructingscansofdeterioratedimagesbyremov-in
4、gscratchesorstains,orcreatingartisticeffects.Mostinpaintingmethodsworkasfollows.First,theimageregionstobeinpaintedareselected,usu-allymanually.Next,colorinformationispropagatedinwardfromtheregionboundaries,i.e.,theknownimageinformationisusedtofillinthemissingareas.Inordertoproduceaperceptu
5、allyplausiblereconstruction,anin-paintingtechniqueshouldattempttocontinuetheisophotes(linesofequalgrayvalue)assmoothlyaspossibleinsidethereconstructedregion.Inotherwords,themissingregionshouldbeinpaintedsothattheinpaintedgrayvalueandgradientextrapolatethegrayvalueandgradientoutsidethisre
