2、gproportional-integral-derivative(PID)controllersinsingle-inputsingle-output(SISO)systems.However,onlyafewinvestigationshavebeencarriedoutontuningPIDcontrollersincascadecontrolsystems.Inthispaper,anewapproach,namelytheuseofaSmithpredictorintheouterloopofacascadecon
3、trolsystem,isinvestigated.Themethodcanbeusedintemperaturecontrolproblemswherethesecondarypartoftheprocess(theinnerloop)mayhaveanegligibledelaywhiletheprimaryloop(theouterloop)hasatime-delay.Twodif-ferentapproaches,includinganautotuningmethod,to®ndthecontrollerparam
