2、ippinesDefenseMinisterialmeetingon29January2015inTokyo,Japan.Atthemeeting,thetwoMinistersextensivelyandfranklyexchangedideasregardingsecuritycircumstancessurroundingthetwocountries,theirdefensepolicyandregionalandglobalsecuritychallenges,aswellasbilateraldefensecooperationandexchange

3、s.ThetwoMinistersparticularlybriefedeachotheronandacknowledgedthecurrentsituationofSouthChinaSeaandEastChinaSea.Inthisregard,bothMinisterssharedtheviewthatanydisputeshouldbesettledpeacefully,withoutuseofforceorcoercion,inaccordancewithbasicprinciplesofinternationallaw.Theyalsoreaffir

4、medtheimportanceofthefreedomofnavigationandoverflightinthehighseas.MinisterNakatanialsoexplainedJapan’sproactivecontributiontopeacebasedoninternationalcooperationpromotedundertheAbeadministrationandJapan’seffortsontheongoingdevelopmentofsecuritylegislation.SecretaryGazminwelcomedJapa

5、n’seffortstoactivelycontributetothepeaceandstabilityoftheworldtogetherwithinternationalcommunity.ThetwoministersalsocondemnedtheterroristactofhostagetakingoftwoJapanesenationalsallegedlybyISIL.SecretaryGazminexpressedhisstrongsupportfortheintentionofJapanesegovernment’snottogiveinter

6、rorism.RecallingthatASEANdefenseministers,attheJapan-ASEANDefenceMinisters’InformalMeetingheldinMyanmarinNovember2014,expressedthattheyvaluetheactivecontributionbyMinistryofDefenseofJapan/JapanSelf-DefenseForces(JSDF)fortheregionandtheyspecificallyshowedhighexpectationstowardpromotin

7、gJapan-ASEANdefensecooperationintheareaofnon-traditionalsecurity,thetwoMinisterssharedtheviewthatnon-traditionalsecurityareawillalsobeacorefieldofdevelopingdefensecooperationandexchanges.ThetwoMinistershighlightedandvaluedtheprogressonbilateralcooperationandexchangesbetweenthetwodefe
