2、heldJapan-PhilippinesDefenseMinisterialmeetingon29January2015inTokyo,Japan.Atthemeeting,thetwoMinistersextensivelyandfranklyexchangedideasregardingsecuritycircumstancessurroundingthetwocountries,theirdefensepolicyandregionalandglobalsecuritychallenges,aswellasbilaterald

3、efensecooperationandexchanges.ThetwoMinistersparticularlybriefedeachotheronandacknowledgedthecurrentsituationofSouthChinaSeaandEastChinaSea.Inthisregard,bothMinisterssharedtheviewthatanydisputeshouldbesettledpeacefully,withoutuseofforceorcoercion,inaccordancewithbasicpr

4、inciplesofinternationallaw.Theyalsoreaffirmedtheimportanceofthefreedomofnavigationandoverflightinthehighseas.MinisterNakatanialsoexplainedJapan’sproactivecontributiontopeacebasedoninternationalcooperationpromotedundertheAbeadministrationandJapan’seffortsontheongoingdeve

5、lopmentofsecuritylegislation.SecretaryGazminwelcomedJapan’seffortstoactivelycontributetothepeaceandstabilityoftheworldtogetherwithinternationalcommunity.ThetwoministersalsocondemnedtheterroristactofhostagetakingoftwoJapanesenationalsallegedlybyISIL.SecretaryGazminexpres

6、sedhisstrongsupportfortheintentionofJapanesegovernment’snottogiveinterrorism.RecallingthatASEANdefenseministers,attheJapan-ASEANDefenceMinisters’InformalMeetingheldinMyanmarinNovember2014,expressedthattheyvaluetheactivecontributionbyMinistryofDefenseofJapan/JapanSelf-De

7、fenseForces(JSDF)fortheregionandtheyspecificallyshowedhighexpectationstowardpromotingJapan-ASEANdefensecooperationintheareaofnon-traditionalsecurity,thetwoMinisterssharedtheviewthatnon-traditionalsecurityareawillalsobeacorefieldofdevelopingdefensecooperationandexchanges
