2、Interestintheroleofthemicrobiomeinhumanhealthhasburgeonedoverthepastdecadewiththeadventofnewtechnologiesforinterrogatingcomplexmicrobialcommunities.Thela
3、rge-scaledynamicsofthemicrobiomecanbedescribedbymanyofthetoolsandobservationsusedinthestudyofpopulationecology.Decipheringthemetagenomeanditsaggregategeneticinformationcanalsobeusedtounderstandthefunctionalpropertiesofthemicrobialcommunity.Boththemicrobiomeandmetagenomeprobablyhaveimportantfuncti
4、onsinhealthanddisease;theirexplorationisafrontierinhumangenetics.Untilrecently,thepropertiesofthemicrobiotaofhumanssystemswithstrongphenotypesisessentialformak-MicrobiotaThemicrobialorganismsthat(formerlycalled‘thenormalflora’)werelargelyablackingprogressinthisfieldofappliedgenetics.Althoughconst
