2、fpeerdecisionmakingunits(DMUs).Itisparticularlyusefulwherenoaprioriinformationonthetradeoffsorrelationsamongvariousperformancemeasuresisavailable.However,itisverydesirableifevaluationstandards,whentheycanbeestab-lished,beincorporatedintoDEAperformanceevaluation.Thisisespe
3、ciallyimportantwhenserviceoperationsareunderinvestigation,becauseservicestandardsaregenerallydifficulttoestablish.TheapproachesthathavebeendevelopedtoincorporateevaluationstandardsintoDEA,asreportedintheliterature,havetendedtoberatherindirect,focusingprimarilyonthemultipli
4、ersinDEAmodels.ThispaperintroducesanewwayofbuildingperformancestandardsdirectlyintotheDEAstructurewhencontext-dependentactivitymatrixesexistfordifferentclassesofDMUs.Forexample,twosetsofbranches,whosetransactiontimesareknowntobedifferentfromeachother,usuallyhavetwodiffere
5、ntactivitymatrixes.Wede-velopaproceduresothatasetofstandardDMUscanbegeneratedandincorporateddirectlyintotheDEAanalysis.Theproposedapproachisappliedtoasampleof100branchesofamajorCanadianbankwheredifferentsetsoftimestandardsexistforthreedistinctgroupsofbranches.KeywordsData
