2、y2007Availableonline23July2007AbstractThispaperisanattempttothrowlightontheinternationalizationpathsofemergingeconomyfirmsthroughastrategicgroupanalysisofinternationalizingfirmsintheIndianpharmaceuticalindustry.Strategicgroupanalysisofaproprietarydatasetofstrategicvariablesfromfortyfirmsrev

3、ealedsignificantvariationintheirinternationalizationstrategies.Thedistinctstrategiesexhibiteddifferentvaluecreationpotential,butledtosimilarlevelsofperformanceintermsofreturnonassets,thusindicatingequifinalityofdifferentpathstomultinationality.Inductivelydrawingfromin-depthanalysisoffirmsfr

4、omeachofthestrategicgroups,thepaperproposesaconceptualmodelofinternationalizationforemergingeconomyfirmsthroughacombinationofexploitationandexplorationstrategiesalongthedimensionsofproductsandmarkets.Firmsthatareabletosupplementtheconventionalexploitationstrategieswithexplorationthroughnewp
