3、e.Themostconservativemethodforestimatingsystemfailureprobabilityissummingupfailureprobabilitiesofcomponents.Theresultofthisconservativecalculationequalssystemfailureprobabilityforaseriesofindependentcomponents.Reliabilityofaseriesofcomponentsisthelowerboundaryof

4、systemreliability.Redundantcomponentsandstandbycomponentsareconsideredinordertoestimaterealisticreliability.Amoduleconsistsofmanycomponentsandasystemconsistsofseveralkindsofmodules.Ananalyticcalculationofthereliabilityorriskbasedontheinformationofmodulestructure

5、andcomponentreliabilitiesisrelativelysimple.Ananalyticmodelforthereliabilityorriskestimatesatthesystemleveliscomplexandsometimesdifficulttodevelop.Conventionalmethodologiesareusedwithroughassumptionsifthereliabilitymodelingisforadecisionwhichdoesnotrequirehighac

6、curacy,suchasthedeterminationofthenumberofsparemodulesforanon-safety-criticalsystem.Eventheuseofthelowerboundaryvalueofsystemreliabilityispossibleforsimplicity.Morecomplicatedrelationshipsamongsystemfunctionsshouldbemodeledfortheaccurateandrealisticestimationofr

7、iskfromsafety-criticalsystems.Thefaultsinanadvanceddigitalsystemaremonitoredbyaself-monitoringalgorithmandrecoveredbeforethefaultcausessystemfailure.Protectingasystemfromcatastrophicdamageispossibleeventhoughitisnotpossibletorecoverthefault.Multiple-channelproce
