4、eitsownborders.WhenscholarsponderthebuiltenvironmentofEastAsia,theystilldosothroughthelensofJapan.ArecentconferenceatHarvard’sGraduateSchoolofDesign(GSD)providedacorrectivegesture.“(Un)BuildingColonialSpaceinKorea,1910-1945”wasthefirstconferenceataNorthAmericanarchitectureschoolforscho
5、larsexploringtheintersectionofKoreanarchitectureandhistory.Thesessionasked:Whatcanculturalusesofspace,landscape,andthebuiltenvironmentteachusaboutthepast?Theinterdisciplinarygatheringexplorednewwaysofseeingarchitecture,beginningwithSouthKorea,throughthelensesofhistory,literature,archae
6、ology,andotherdisciplinesthattouchonspatialdimensions.ItwassponsoredbytheKoreaInstitute,withhelpfromAsiaGSD,theHarvardKoreaSociety,andKoreaGSD.“Inthecontextofartandarchitectureschool,youdon’ttouchonKoreaatall,”saidconferenceorganizerMelanySun-MinPark,acandidateforamaster’sdegreeindesig
