2、ntsownedbyCarte'sfamilyforoveracentury.ItwasalsothefirstluxuryhotelinBritain,introducingelectriclightsthroughoutthehotel,electriclifts,bathroomsinsidemostofthelavishlyfurnishedrooms,constanthotandcoldrunningwaterandmanyotherinnovations.CartehiredmanagerCésarRitzandFrenchchefAugusteEscoffier,whoest
3、ablishedanunprecedentedstandardofqualityinhotelservice,entertainmentandelegantdining,attractingroyaltyandotherwealthyguestsanddiners.WinstonChurchillfrequentlytookhiscabinettolunchatthehotel.ThehotelbecameCarte'smostsuccessfulventure.Itsbands,SavoyOrpheansandtheSavoyHavanaBand,becamefamous,andothe
4、rentertainers(whowerealsooftenguests)includedGeorgeGershwin,FrankSinatra,LenaHorneandNoëlCoward.FamousguestshaveincludedEdwardVII,EnricoCaruso,CharlieChaplin,HarryTruman,JudyGarland,BabeRuth,LaurenceOlivier,MarilynMonroe,JohnWayne,HumphreyBogart,ElizabethTaylor,BarbraStreisand,TheBeatlesandnumerou
5、sothers.ThehotelisnowmanagedbyFairmontHotelsandResorts.Ithasbeencalled"London'smostfamoushotel"andremainsoneofLondon'smostprestigiousandopulenthotels,with268roomsandpanoramicviewsoftheRiverThamesacrossSavoyPlaceandtheThamesEmbankmentThehotelclosedinDecember2007forextensiverenovationsandreopenedinO
6、ctober2010.Thehotel'searlyyearsHavingseentheopulenceofAmericanhotelsinhismanyvisitstotheU.S.,Mr.CartedecidedtobuildthefirstluxuryhotelinBritain[4]toattractforeignclienteleaswellasBritishtouristswhohadtraveledtoLondonfortheatreandsightseeing.Openedin1889,thehotelwasdesignedbyarchitectThomasEdwardCo
