2、urantsownedbyCartelfamilyforoveracentury.ItwasalsothefirstluxuryhotelinBritain,introducingelectriclightsthroughoutthehotel,electriclifts,bathroomsinsidemostofthelavishlyfurnishedrooms,constanthotandcoldrunningwaterandmanyotherinnovations.CartehiredmanagerCesarRitzandFrenchchefAugusteEscoffier,w
3、hoestablishedanunprecedentedstandardofqualityinhotelservice,entertainmentandelegantdining,attractingroyaltyandotherwealthyguestsanddiners.WinstonChurchillfrequentlytookhiscabinettolunchatthehotel.ThehotelbecameCartelmostsuccessfulventure.Itsbands,SavoyOrpheansandtheSavoyHavanaBand,becamefamous,
4、andotherentertainers(whowerealsooftenguests)includedGeorgeGershwin,FrankSinatra,LenaHorneandNoelCoward.FamousguestshaveincludedEdwardVII,EnricoCaruso,CharlieChaplin,HanyTruman,JudyGarland,BabeRuth,LaurenceOlivier,MarilynMonroe,JohnWayne,HumphreyBogart,ElizabethTaylor,BarbraStreisand,TheBeatlesa
5、ndnumerousothers.ThehotelisnowmanagedbyFairmontHotelsandResorts.Ithasbeencalled”London'smostfamoushotel11andremainsoneofLondon'smostprestigiousandopulenthotels,with268roomsandpanoramicviewsoftheRiverThamesacrossSavoyPlaceandtheThamesEmbankmentThehotelclosedinDecember2007forextensiverenovationsa
6、ndreopenedinOctober2010.ThehoteFsearlyyearsHavingseentheopulenceofAmericanhotelsinhismanyvisitstotheU.S.,Mr.CartedecidedtobuildthefirstluxuryhotelinBritain141toattractforeignclienteleaswellasBritishtouristswhohadtraveledtoLondonfortheatreandsightseeing.Openedin1889,thehotelwasdesignedbyarchitec
