2、3MajorProfessor:BrianK.Johnson,Ph.D.iiiABSTRACTAshipboardpowersystemisastiff,isolatedpowersystem.Powerisgeneratedlocally,anddistributedovershortdistancesmakingthesystemvulnerabletosystemtransients.Powerqualityproblemssuchasvoltagesags,whichariseduetoafaultorap

3、ulsedload,cancauseinterruptionsofcriticalloads.Thiscanbeofaseriousconcernforthesurvivabilityofacombatship.Aseriesvoltageinjectiontypeflywheelenergystoragesystemisusedtomitigatevoltagesags.Thebasiccircuitconsistsofanenergystoragesystem,powerelectronicinterfacea

4、ndaseriesconnectedtransformer.Inthiscasetheenergystoragesystemconsistsisaflywheelcoupledtoaninductionmachine.Thepowerelectronicinterfaceconsistsoftwovoltagesourcedconverters(VSC)connectedthroughacommonDClink.Theflywheelstoresenergyintheformofkineticenergyandth

5、einductionmachineisusedforenergyconversion.Bi-directionalpowerflowismaintainedbyregulatingtheDCbusvoltage.IndirectfieldorientatedcontrolwithspacevectorPWMisusedtocontroltheinductionmachine.SinusoidalPWMisusedforcontrollingthepowersystemsideVSC.Thispaperpresent
