5、the-artyttriastabilisedzirconia(YSZ).HighpuritypowdersFiniteelementmodellingYoung'smoduluswereselectedinthiswork.Microstructurewasassessedwithscanningelectronmicroscopeandanin-housedevel-opedimageanalysisroutinewasusedtocharacteriseporositycontent.Evaluationswerecarriedoutusing
6、thelaserflashtechniquetomeasurethermalconductivity.Lifetimewasassessedusingthermo-cyclicfatiguetesting.Finiteelementanalysiswasutilisedtoevaluatethermal–mechanicalmaterialbehaviourandtodesignthemorphologyofthecoatingwiththehelpofanartificialcoatingmorphologygeneratorthroughestabl
7、ishmentofrelationshipsbe-tweenmicrostructure,thermalconductivityandstiffness.Itwasshownthatthecombinedempiricalandnumericalapproachisaneffectivetoolfordevelopinghighperformancecoatings.Theresultsshowthatlargeglobularporesandconnectedcracksinheritedwithinthecoatingmicrostructure
