3、cropcanberelatedtoclimatefactors.TheaimofthispaperwastoderiveagroclimaticregionsofIrelandusinghydro-thermalclimate(asexpressedbyclimographsusingmeanmonthlyrainfallandtemperature)inconjunctionwithastatisticalclusteringtechnique(k-meansclustering)torelatecropyield,estimatedusingm
4、athematicalsimulationmodelsforgrass,barley,maize,potatoandsoybeantohydro-thermalclimatedata.Adataset,ona10km×10kmgrid,consistingofmonthlyradiation,rainfall,maximumtemperatureandminimumtemperaturewasusedtodrivecropsimulationmodelstopredictaverageyields,foreachgridsquare.Resultss
5、howedthatthecropssimulatedweresensitivetoeitheravailablewaterorlengthofgrowingseason.Astherearefewobjectivemeasuresoftheidealnumberofclusterstouseinordertocreateagroclimaticregions,clusteringsto3,4and7regionswereevaluatedagainstknownpropertiesoftheIrishclimateandcropresponses.A
6、sevenclusteragroclimateregionmapwasthoughttobeagoodbasisfordescribingIrelandsagroclimatesandwascomparedwithclimatedataforthenationalsynopticstationnetwork.Resultssuggestedareasonablygoodcorrespondencebetweenclustersandtheirassociatedsynopticobservationstations.Someanomalieswere
