1、AbstractInChina,theoveralllevelofnon—Englishmajors’Englishwritingproficiencyisverylow(Yao&Cheng,2005),SOhowtoamelioratethissituationhasbeenperplexinglanguageteachersandresearchers.Untilthelate20thcentury,mostresearchershavebeenexploringhowtopromoteEnglishwritingproficiencyf
2、romtheperspectiveofteachingparadigmsandlearningstrategies.Mostrecently,witlltheadventofalternativeassessment,assessmentforlearning,especially、Ⅳiththeextensiveevidencethatformativeassessmentcanpromotelearning,toexplorehowtoimprovethequalityofwritingteachingfromtheperspective
3、ofassessmentbecomesthefocusoftheartention.ThestudyofformativeassessmentbeginswithStriven’SworktitledThemethodologyofevaluationin1967.Itisalsocalledclassroomassessmentorassessmentforlearning.Tillnow,manystudieshaveshownfirmevidencethatattentiontoformativeassessmentCanleadtos
4、ignificantachievementgains,especiallyforlow-achievers.Therearealsosomestudies,whichclaimnlattheimplementationoftheformativeassessmenthaspositiveimpactsonotheraspectsoflearninglikestudents’affectandlearningstrategies.However,otherstudiesrevealthatattentiontoformativeassessme
5、ntCan’tleadtosignificantachievementgains.Alltheseindicatethatthepracticeofformativeassessmentiscontextualized.EmpiricaldataneedtobegatheredforChineseEnglishlearningattertiarylevelSOthatformativeassessmentpracticecouldbebetterinformedinthisparticularcontext.Thisstudyexplores
