1、AbstractInChina,theoveralllevelofnon—Englishmajors’Englishwritingproficiencyisverylow(Yao&Cheng，2005)，SOhowtoamelioratethissituationhasbeenperplexinglanguageteachersandresearchers．Untilthelate20thcentury,mostresearchershavebeenexploringhowtopromoteEnglishwritingproficiencyf

2、romtheperspectiveofteachingparadigmsandlearningstrategies．Mostrecently,witlltheadventofalternativeassessment，assessmentforlearning,especially、Ⅳiththeextensiveevidencethatformativeassessmentcanpromotelearning，toexplorehowtoimprovethequalityofwritingteachingfromtheperspective

3、ofassessmentbecomesthefocusoftheartention．ThestudyofformativeassessmentbeginswithStriven’SworktitledThemethodologyofevaluationin1967．Itisalsocalledclassroomassessmentorassessmentforlearning．Tillnow,manystudieshaveshownfirmevidencethatattentiontoformativeassessmentCanleadtos

4、ignificantachievementgains，especiallyforlow-achievers．Therearealsosomestudies,whichclaimnlattheimplementationoftheformativeassessmenthaspositiveimpactsonotheraspectsoflearninglikestudents’affectandlearningstrategies．However,otherstudiesrevealthatattentiontoformativeassessme

5、ntCan’tleadtosignificantachievementgains．Alltheseindicatethatthepracticeofformativeassessmentiscontextualized．EmpiricaldataneedtobegatheredforChineseEnglishlearningattertiarylevelSOthatformativeassessmentpracticecouldbebetterinformedinthisparticularcontext．Thisstudyexplores
