3、anizationsareincreasinglyviewedasknowledge-basedenterprisesinwhichformalknowledgemanagementisessential.Nowadays,KMisrapidlybecominganintegralbusinessactivityfororganizationsastheyrealizethatcompetitivenesspivotsaroundtheeffectivemanagementofknowledge.KMpromisesmuch,butoftendeliversverylitt

4、le.Therearenosimplesolutionstothischallenge.ThisarticlestartsbytryingtodefinewhatKMis.Itthenidentifieswheretheproblemslieandsuggestsfivestepstoresolvethoseproblems.KMhasbecomeanimportanttoolinstayingaheadinthecompetitionbetweencompanies.InthisarticlefivedifferentphasesoftheKMprocessaredist

5、inguished:acquiringknowledge,codifyingknowledge,disseminatingknowledge,developingknowledgeandapplyingknowledge.TheoccurrenceofKMproblemsisdemonstratedinacasestudyinaknowledge-intensivecompany.MostoftheproblemsinthiscaseoccurinthefirstthreephasesoftheKMprocess.Itisrecommendedthatthecompanym

6、onitorsonaregularbasis,startingfromitscorecompetenciesanditsstrategy,whatessentialknowledgetheiremployeesarelackingandencouragesthemtoacquireit.Furthermore,thecompanyshouldensurethatemployeeshavetimetocodifytheirknowledgeregularlyandthatadequateinformationsystemsareinplaceandkeptup-to-date

7、.Thedisseminationofknowledgecanbeimprovedbyworkingindifferentteams,couplingjuniorwithsenioremployees,andbytheexchangeofnewknowledgebetweenemployeesonaregularbasisbyencouragingthedevelopmentofcommunitiesofpracticeandbythesystematiccreationoflearninghistories.In
