2、cognitivescience,andexplainingitsacquisitionisacrucialtaskfordevelopmentalpsychology.Ifthedifficultyofacquiringasecondlanguage(L2),atleastatalaterage,standsinsharpcontrasttothechild’scelebratedaccomplishments,thenexplainingthiscontrastisequallyimportantfordevelopingacomple
3、teunderstandingofhumans’abilitiestouseandacquirelanguage.Infact,itcanbearguedthatitistheenormouscontrastbetweenthetwophenomenathatneedsexplaining,ratherthaneitherofthetwophenomenaperse.Onewaytotacklethisproblemisthesocialscienceapproachofcorrelatingageandmanyotherdemograph
4、icvariableswithsuccessinacquisition:todisentangledesignfeaturesofthespeciesfromaccidentalcharacteristicsoftheenvironment.AnotherapproachconsistsofinvestigatingwhatelementsorcharacteristicsofanL2arehardtoacquire:tounderstandbetterhowweaknessesintheacquisitionprocessinteract
