2、anifestedasclusteringsintheoverallsystemnetworkoftheclause(andothergrammaticalunits).(ii)Structurally,themetafunctionalsimultaneityismanifestedasthreesimultaneousstrandsorlayersinthestructureoftheclause.Thestructuralfunctionsfromthedifferentmetafunctionalstrandsareconflatedwithoneanother.2.Delicacyi
3、saverysimpleyetpowerfulprincipleoforganization.Itorderssystemsonaclinefromthemostgeneralsystemsofoptionstothemostspecificones;andatthesametime,itordersrealizationsoftheseoptionsaccordingtotheirsystemicenvironment.Thismeansthattherealizationalpropertiesofaclauseoranyothergrammaticalunitcanbe'placed'i
4、nthesystemsothatitappliesonlytotheappropriatesubsetofunits.Thatis,realizationalpropertiesareinheritedalongtheclineofdelicacyfromlessdelicatetomoredelicate.Delicacycanthusbeinterpretedasageneralprinciplefororganizinglexicogrammar,justlikerank;morespecifically,itisaprinciplefordistributinginformationi
