2、heirspecificpointofview:LanguageEvolution,LanguagecognitionandLanguagecompetition.Thefirstonetreatslanguageasacomplexsystemitself,studyinglanguagestructuredynamicsfromthepointofviewoflinguisticsandhumanevolutionarytheory.Thesecondoneanalyzeslanguagesacquisition,mainlycentredinthestudyofhumanbrainlea
3、rningprocessesandgenetics.Finally,languagecompetition,thefieldweaddressherestudiesthedynamicsoflanguageuseandlearningduetosocialinteractions.Assuchitisaprocessbelongingtothegeneralclassofprocessesthatcanbemodelledbytheinteractionofheterogeneousagents.Manycountrieshavedifferentlanguagescoexistingtoda
4、ywithintheirboundaries,butthefateofmanyoftheminthefutureistodayunclear.Thedynamicsunderlyingprocessesoflanguagecompetitionandextinctionhasbeenconsideredfromthepointofviewofcomplexsystemsofinteractingagents[1].StartingfromthemodelofAbramsandStrogatzforthedynamicsofendangeredlanguages[2],themodelsprop
5、osedbyMiraandParedes,andMinettandWang[3]addresstheissueofbilingualism.Ourmaingoalinthisworkistocontributetogivesanswerstothegeneralquestionsaboutthedynamicsoflanguageuse:whicharepossiblemechanismstostabilizethecoexistenceoftwocompetinglanguages?Whichistheroleofbilingualindividualsandsocialstructurei
6、nthisprocess?Inparticularwestudytheeffectsoflocalityonthecompetitionbetweentwolanguagesinasocialstructure,goingbeyondpreviousmeanfieldanalysis.Themechanismsofgrowthofmonolingualspatialdomains,thedynamicsatthelinguisticborders,andtheroleofbilingualindividualsinprocessesofdomaingrowth,arealsoanalyzed.
