3、y21.ThetwoleadershadaseriousandfrankexchangeofviewsonSino-U.S.relationsandworldaffairs.Duringthevisit,extensive,earnestandfrankdiscussionswereheldbetweenPresidentNixonandPremierChouEn-laionthenormalizationofrelationsbetweentheUnitedStatesofAmericaandthePeople'

4、sRepublicofChina,aswellasonothermattersofinteresttobothsides.Inaddition,SecretaryofStateWilliamRogersandForeignMinisterChiPeng-feiheldtalksinthesamespirit.PresidentNixonandhispartyvisitedPekingandviewedcultural,industrialandagriculturalsites,andtheyalsotouredH

5、angchowandShanghaiwhere,continuingdiscussionswithChineseleaders,theyviewedsimilarplacesofinterest.TheleadersofthePeople'sRepublicofChinaandtheUnitedStatesofAmericafounditbeneficialtohavethisopportunity,aftersomanyyearswithoutcontact,topresentcandidlytooneanoth

6、ertheirviewsonavarietyofissues.Theyreviewedthein-ternationalsituationinwhichimportantchangesandgreatupheavalsaretakingplaceandexpoundedtheirrespectivepositionsandattitudes.TheChinesesidestated:Whereverthereisop-pression,thereisresistance.Countrieswantinde-pend
