2、atthenatureofSino-Americanrelationswillbeamajorfactorindeterminingthestateoftheworldinthe21stcentury.ThehistoryofrelationsbetweenChinaandUnitedStates.ThebeginningofrelationsbetweenChinaandtheUnitedStatesseemstobeabeginningofinequality.BecausetheUnitedStatesforcedtheQinggovernmenttos
3、igntheunequaltreatywhichistheTreatyofWangxiaat1844.ThistreatynotonlyputAmericantradeonparwiththeBritishbutalsosecuredAmericans'rightofextraterritoriality.Withthedevelopmentofhistory,therelationsbetweenChinaandtheUnitedStateshavealsodeveloped.IntheWorldWarII,thetwocountriesbecameally
4、,todealwiththecommonenemynamedJapan.AtthesametimetheUnitedStatesgovernmentandpeoplegiveusalotofhelpaboutfood,drugs,weapons,etc.By1949,MaoestablishedthePeople'sRepublicofChina(PRC)onthemainland,whileChiang'sROConTaiwanwasconsideredasagovernment-in-exilefordecades.For30yearsafteritsfo
5、unding,theUnitedStatesdidnotformallyrecognizethePeople'sRepublicofChina.Instead,itmaintaineddiplomaticrelationswiththeRepublicofChinagovernmentonTaiwan,andrecognizedtheROCasthesolelegitimategovernmentofChina.Duringthistime,ChinaandtheUnitedStatesevenbecomeenemies,weevenhaveawaronthe
6、Koreanpeninsula.ButboththeChineseandtheAmericanshadissuedfeelerstotrytoimprovetherelationsbetweenthesetwomajorpowers.BythePingPongDiplomacy,thePRCrespondedbyinvitingtheAmericanpingpongteamtotourChina.TheyopenedthewaytorapprochementofrelationsbetweenChinaandtheUnitedStates.FromFebrua
7、ry21toFebruary28,1972,PresidentNixonvisitedtoBeijing,Hangzhou,andShanghai.Attheconclusionofhistrip,theUSandthePRCissuedtheShanghaiCommuniqué,astatementoftheirsharedforeignpolicyviews.IntheCommuniqué,bothnationspledgedtoworktowardthefullnormalizationofdiplomaticrelations.TheUSacknowl
